2019 Subaru WRX

Overview
Subaru's fast and fun WRX delivers great handling, stellar safety ratings, and sporty performance to outshine cars with much higher price tags. The automaker is pleased to announce the 2019 version as "the best-handling, best-performing WRX ever." The five trim levels (WRX, Premium, Limited, STI, and STI Limited) of this all-wheel-drive sports sedan give buyers a range of choices, depending on their budget and which standard features are important to them.

The base engine (on the first three trims) is a 2.0-liter turbo-charged inline four-cylinder 268 hp Subaru Boxer, and the STI trims have a 2.5-liter turbo Boxer that makes 310 horses. The fully synchronized manual transmission that comes standard on the three lowest trims is upgraded to a close-ratio version on the STI trims. Buyers of the Premium and Limited trims can opt for a Sport Lineartronic transmission with paddle shifters. All trim levels get aluminum sport pedals, and a Performance Package is available on the Limited trim to add high-performance brake pads, Recaro sport seats that are power-adjustable eight ways, and eye-catching red brake calipers.

Performance
The WRX's precise handling earns it an A rating and makes it extremely confident through the curves and corners. The track-tuned suspension, quick-ratio steering, high-performance braking, vehicle dynamics control with active torque vectoring, and other sporty elements give it the feel of a racer. Fuel economy on the stick shift is 27 highway/21 city, dropping slightly to 24/18 on the automatic. On the STI, which takes high-octane gas and only comes in manual, the mpg rating is 22 highway/21 city. Performance upgrades include an STI exhaust system, under spoiler, and carbon fiber trunk trim (all engraved with the STI badging) and a vortex generator.

Technology
The STARLINK touchscreen multimedia system unites information, communication, and entertainment functions in one convenient place. It's compatible with Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Aha, Pandora, SiriusXM, and other technology, and it offers post-crash functions such as calling first responders after it detects a collision (for instance, when an airbag is deployed). The system can be upgraded to include navigation on the Limited trim. Dual USB ports offer convenience for keeping devices charged.

Safety
With Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and an impressive array of safety features, the 2019 WRX earns top ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). Every trim level comes with a rear-vision camera, and the Premium and Limited models equipped with automatic transmission also receive the EyeSight suite of active safety features (adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and pre-collision warning with automatic braking). The All-Weather Package (standard on Premium and Limited) adds heated front seats, a windshield-wiper de-icer, and heated side mirrors to improve winter travel. The STARLINK system detects when an airbag has been deployed and automatically contacts first responders through the car's audio system. Other safety-related functionalities of STARLINK are enhanced roadside assistance, diagnostic alerts, and remote unlock and vehicle locator services, plus notifications if the security alarm is triggered.
