Eco-conscious drivers who value an adventure-ready vehicle that's as capable off the beaten path as it is on the highway have found their dream car in the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid. Using Subaru's StarDrive electric vehicle technology, it provides up to 90 MPGe (electric vehicle miles) and 480 miles of total vehicle range, making it the most fuel-efficient all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid sold in the United States. When the battery is depleted, you can expect to net around 35 mpg combined city/highway (which is 5 mpg better than the gas-only version). Overall, this is the strongest, best-accelerating, and most efficient Crosstrek ever.

Hybrid System and Charging

The 2020 Crosstrek Hybrid comes in a single trim level. It gets its power from the gas-electric hybrid combo of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine and a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor. To maximize passenger space, the battery pack is stowed beneath the cargo area. A continuously variable transmission and Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive both come standard.

The Crosstrek Hybrid is set up to charge with a regular 120-volt household outlet. It will take about 5 hours to reach full charge if the battery is completely dead, but a 240V outlet will do the job in about 2 hours. For charging en route, you can use the helpful Charge Finder app and the vehicle's touchscreen infotainment system to search for nearby public charging stations.

Standard and Available Amenities

Standard features on the 2020 Crosstrek Hybrid include keyless entry with push-button ignition, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather upholstery, 60/40-split fold-down rear seats, roof rails, and a rearview camera. The information/entertainment system is set up with an 8-inch touchscreen, dual front and rear USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker audio system, 4G LTE on-board Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. A voice-activated navigation system and an upgraded eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio unit are both optional.

Subaru's standard EyeSight Driver Assist Technology serves to keep you secure and confident by bundling adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and lane departure with sway warning. Outside of the EyeSight technology grouping, it also gets high beam assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking.
